Spring cleaning your Squarespace website

Spring has just started so what better time to do a few checks of your Squarespace website and get it looking all fresh. Here are 5 quick things you can do for a Squarespace Spring Clean.

#1 Check that your instagram feed is displaying the latest images from your feed

When Instagram does an update it can affect the images appearing in your feed if you are using an Instagram block on your website. To get it working again here is what you can do.

Firstly log into your Instagram account. This will make it easier for when you go to reconnect it in Squarespace.

Next you’ll need to log into your Squarespace account

Go to Settings > Connected accounts

Below this you should see your connected accounts.

Click Reauthenticate then refresh your screen.

If it still isn’t working you might need to try re-set data. Under your connected accounts click on the Instagram account and choose re-set then save.

If you are still having no luck then just click on the page you have your instagram block on and edit the block itself. Under connected accounts make sure your account has been selected. Save your changes and then refresh your screen.

#2 Check for any unused pages

If you’re anything like me, the unlinked page section of your website is looking like a graveyard for where some great page ideas went to die. This is a good place to have pages that you are working on but aren’t quite ready to have on your site. The problem is sometimes these pages don’t ever end up being on your site and get forgotten down in the unlinked page section. It’s best to go through and check these pages and delete any that you don’t need. They are not good for your SEO so it’s best to get rid of them. Just go into pages and scroll down to the unlinked section and click on the the bin icon to delete a page.

#3 Hide some pages from search engines

Now is also is a good time to hide some of your pages from search engines. Anything that is very light on content or a page you don’t want to be searched eg a privacy policy or terms and conditions. To do this go into Pages > Click on the gear icon for the page you want to hide > SEO > Toggle on Hide Page from Search Results

#4 Get some fresh images

If you haven’t changed any images on your website for awhile now might be a good time to give your site a fresh look by swapping out some images or removing any that no longer fit your style.

#5 Check your links

Sometimes you might change a page or url on your site and forget that it will affect your links. Here is your reminder to check over the links in your site and make sure they are still leading to the right pages.
